Arribada 2015

Hace algunas semanas se celebró en Baiona la anual 'Arribada', fiesta que conmemora la llegada de Colón a la Península. Concretamente, aunque él atracó en Portugal hace unos cuantos cientos de años, otro de sus navíos llegó al puerto de Baiona: la Pinta. Todo esto fue en 1493 y a pesar de que han pasado más de 500 años (y a pesar de que me guardo mi opinión sobre la colonización de América para otra ocasión), su vuelta a Europa sigue siendo una celebración que se realiza durante todo un fin de semana. Este 2015 han sido los días 6, 7 y 8 de marzo aunque yo solo fui el domingo (el 8).
Some weeks ago was the annual festival 'Arribada' ('The Arrival'), which commemorates the arrival of Columbus to the Spanish Peninsula a few hundred years ago. Even though he arrived to Portugal, another of his ships (the Pinta) arrived to Baiona, a city nerby mine. All of this happened more than 500 years ago (I won't talk about my personal opinion regarding America's colonization on this post) but there's still a festival being celebrated at the beginning of march every year. This time it was on March 6th, 7th and 8th but I only attended on the 8th.
Si tengo que ser sincera, solo había ido una vez hace algunos años y casi ni me acuerdo (no toquemos el tema... xD) así que ir de nuevo esta vez fue divertido, sobretodo porque el tiempo acompañaba. Lo que no me hizo tanta gracia fue que la cantidad de gente que había era bestial (posiblemente porque fui el domingo) y a veces me agobiaba un montón. Me explico: en toda la parte vieja de la ciudad hay puestos de comida y bebida, de artesanía, alguna que otra de ropa... es una especie de mercadillo medieval. Bien, hasta ahí todo correcto ¿verdad? Pues no del todo, porque las calles son muy estrechas, así que si a eso le sumamos los factores de buen tiempo (incluso un poco de calor) y mucha gente el resultado no es otro más que 'agobio'. Pero bueno, a pesar de ello, me lo pasé bien igual e incluso tuve una sorpresa muy pero que muy grata...
Truth to be told, I went to this festival some years ago but I don't really remember (let's not talk about that either lol) so having he oportunity to go again this time was great and funny, mostly because it was sunny and that always made this kind of things more enjoyable. What wasn't very funny was that there were a looooooooooot of people (my bet? it was a sunny sunday, go figure...) and it was really overwhelming and dificult to walk down the streets from time to time. Let me explain: the old part of the city is where the celebration takes place and there are a lot of stands, like a medieval street market, but the streets are really narrow. Therefore, imagine those narrow streets with lots of stands and bunch of people goind up and down, stopping here and there... kind of a nighmare right? There you go. But that situation only happened a few times tho, I was fine most of the day =) Besides, there was a great surprise waiting for me...

Como digo, fue muy divertido, sobretodo durante la justa jeje Repartieron a todo el publico en cuatro equipos de diferentes colores que correspondían a cada uno de los cuatro caballeros que "lucharían" para ganar el torneo. Azul, verde, rojo y negro. Nosotros eramos del equipo verde (que además era el más majo, ale jajaja) pero al final ganó el rojo (ooooohh). Pero no pasa nada, después de que hubiera terminado todo pudimos acercarnos a donde estaban todos para acariciar a los caballos, ver a los caballeros y quien quisiera también podía hacerse una foto con ellos, como por ejemplo Patsuri jajaja
As I said before: it was very funny, specially during the medieval joust hehe We were split in four different teams, by colours, for each the knights that would "fight" on the joust. Blue, green, red and black. We were Team Green (besides, the knight was really friendly hahaha) but in the end the winner was the red knight (oooohh). But it's ok tho, because we could approach all the knights afterwards and we could see the horses (really beautiful btw) and take some pictures if we wanted. And Patsuri wanted one pic indeed hahaha

Pero lo mejor estaba por llegar. El día anterior me había enterado de que había aves de presa así que cabía la posibilidad de que hubiera buhos o lechuzas, o ambos. La emoción era real. Y cuando vi el sitio donde las tenían las aves (la única pena fue esa, que no estaban libres como deberían estar en realidad... T_T) casi me da un ataque. Porque sí, había buhos y lechuzas y eran tan bonitos que quería llorar. Me enamoré perdidamente del buho real, al que le hice unas cuantas fotos para inmortalizar el momento, mirad que preciosidad: 

But the best was yet to come... the day before going to Baiona I read online that there was a place where they had birds of prey so there was a possibility of seeing owls. The excitement was real. When I saw it, I almost had a heart attack because, yes, there were owls. Such beautiful and magneficient creatures (although I was a bit sad since they were 'kept' there instead of being free as it is supposed to be T_T). I fell in love for the eagle owl and I was able to take some pics of it, look at this beauty:

En resumen: un día completito, pasandolo bien con mis amigos y disfrutando de Baiona que hacía meses que no iba :)

Summing it up: a day full of surprises, having fun with my friends and enjoying Baiona after some months without going there :)
